THE PATH TO TRUE CHRISTIANITY

The path to true practised Christianity and spiritual maturity
is found in
turning selfish love into divine love.

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Or, You can measure the strength of a chain by its weakest link.

This is true for the nation. A nation is only as strong as its small units, namely: its individual citizens, its families, its barangays or villages.

That is why the effort of each and every individual member to improve his personality and lot in life will eventually contribute to the strengthening of the nation.

It is in this context that I feel like sharing to you my correspondence to my younger brother, howbeit some portion of that letter is hurting to him or his wife when published or made known to the public. But knowing its benefit of serving as a lesson to our countrymen, I find it worth the pain and embarrassment.

May this serve to educate especially the younger generation, following us.

Here is following the contents of the letter:
“Now, in the face of intensifying events and shortening
time, I encourage you to be sure to change your motive from self-love to divine love. Or else, the curse called unprofitability and expensiveness of things and also the "chasing after the wind" will continue and you will wake up some day, in the last days that you had missed the whole point.
“So, the key is to make sure you change your entire motive, not work or job or business, but the motive, that is, the reason why you are doing what you are doing.
“For the moment, you are still under the spell of the woman's self-love which deprives the brotherhood especially the poor their share of your services [and fruits].
“Also remember the practice of your wife of feeding your employees with spoiled rancid viands just to make profit.
“Remember, you are not here nor were you called by god, nor were given salvation by Christ to love yourself and your family alone.
“Again, I warn you for the nth time: let us beware of the self-love of our wives! Godly love includes love for god and neighbors, so it means that your efforts and their fruits must benefit the poor of Christ, e.g., the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the sick, the imprisoned -- spiritually and/or physically.
“What you can do is, as a suggestion, continue the providing of opportunities of employment of your fellow accounting graduates. That is one place you can apply the divine-love. Contact Nong Olong. [As we were informed, he had established an accounting/auditing firm in the U.S. ] Who knows we can help many go to the U.S. and have safe works there, unlike the works of prostitutes and domestic helpers which are prone to abuse.
“Strive to get out of the slavery that Angging, your wife, is forcibly placing you inside. She calls it love. You think it love. But read the three parables in Matthew 25 and you will see it is only 1/3 of the entire perfect complete love so-called Divine Love which contains love for God, neighbor and self.
“If you continue to allow that 1/3 love to be your entire Love, the danger is great. Whether you accept it or not, Love of family is only an expanded love of self. It is the so-called “I’mpire” [I empire] to quote the late Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong. It is not the full divine love. It is not even Christianity because Christianity starts when and if you start loving your neighbor as yourself, and loving God above all.
“As long as you stay in self-love, that is not true Christianity. It is called paganism!
“So, your most important task is to balance the three Loves within Divine Love: love for God which is 600fold, love for neighbors which is 60fold, and love for self which is 6fold.
“6fold means the basics, seldom the wants and luxuries. This is understandable because to engage in luxury means here in the Philippines that you will not have left for the other fellowmen! So, deny yourself of some perks and luxuries if you want to fulfill god's law "You shall love Eternal Father your God above all and your Neighbor as yourself."
“That is his highest will. And Jesus said, You can’t enter the gate of heaven if you will only pray 'Lord,lord' without doing the will of the father. Now, the will of the father is not unknown to you. His greatest commandment of Love is His greatest will.
“Maybe, you can also go to the orphanage -- do not let others accompany or know it. And do some kindness.
“This is intended to balance and reduce your present more or less 600fold love of self.
“I am sad for you, dear brother. You are a captive. A Prisoner. And you do not have my kind of strength. You are under-the-saya! Your wife is your master – your God whom you follow and obey so that you are not able to obey God who commanded you to love him above all and your neighbor as yourself!
“[Instead of helpmate to assist you carry out God’s will and commandments, your wife has become to you a great impediment, making it very difficult for you to obey and serve God!?]
“And we will be cursed if we do not succeed in setting ourselves free from this selfish love! How to set ourselves free? By expanding this love of self and family to include God the Father's entire universal family as beneficiary of our service and fruits (be it money or results of our services).
“Look, if you had not only allowed Angging to spurn your friend Wilson, whom you helped start his bakery business, tell me, will rice husk for your new oven be still a problem to you? But she barred him from the credit you had established for him. You gave Wilson that credit line to support him, but Angging cut it off! She barred him from getting the bakery supplies from you. Result: Wilson went bankrupt!
“You and your wife did not realize that Wilson held the key. He had the boat to easily get rice husk from Bohol. And if by his very friendly offer of just gasoline and driver expense not to exceed P400 a round trip, tell me, will you not save your gas expense of P23T a month?
“Even if you will give the entire ingredients to Wilson which he borrowed from you worth P16T, in one month's time, you can recover it by saving P23t from gas through Wilson’s pump boat!

“But now you are cut off from the supply of rice husk in Bohol. And are not able to use your rice-husk oven! And so you continue spending P23T a month for the gas. You could have shifted to rice-husk since September 2005. Your savings would have been P161,000.00!
“Furthermore, we do not know that we are also giving cancer because of the gas we use. Do your own research on this. I have a book from Germany regarding this thing. Although it talks about the car exhausts to contain cancer-causing gases which we inhale, but since the gas we use in baking our bread comes from the same petroleum, and also much more foul odorous which is a hint of greater danger than the fragrant smelling gasoline, I have the less doubt that our gas is dangerous to the health of our bread customers. I suggest you do a separate research to check this. Maybe you have a unbiased chemist friend?
“I am not condemning you. What I am saying not only to you but also to me and all, is this: too much love of Self [e.g., wife] and consequently, lack of faith in God (as in the case of Angging's fear of losing from helping Wilson) makes us all dull and foolish!
“Of course, I am not saying that we help Wilson or anyone without thinking. With wisdom will we help a brother and friend. But never should we allow to ourselves or our wives to spurn a brother because of mere fear and selfishness.
“So, that is why I am repeating: Beware of your wife. Her love is still myopic – very selfish. Until and unless her love is expanded to divine love, so that she can feel sympathy and serve an orphan like or more than her own children, never totally trust her.
“The same warning I am also repeating to myself regarding Vida, my wife. 98% of the Women are still unskilled in Divine Love. They are expert in Self-Love.
“But I am not saying you stop loving your wife. As a matter of fact, you are in this way actually learning and coming to love her more correctly and wisely. Because the logic is: the more we love God and our fellowmen or our other neighbors such as the forests, the seas, the waters, or the whole creation so that no case of deforestation-caused landslide like that of St. Bernard, Leyte, would happen, say, Are we not loving our wife more in that case? By attracting more blessing from above and by letting Mother earth be more generous and protective with us?
“Because, I tell you, in the present way you love her, you will be in danger of both of you falling into hell's trap. For hell is the author of the perverted 666, that is, 600foldlove for self, 60foldlove for neighbor and only 6fold lip-service love for God – pakitang tao.
“If there is be a good guide which you can trust, it is Matthew 25 as the interpretation of Matthew 22's "You shall love the Eternal Father your God above all and your Neighbor as yourself."
“If you do it, then, there is not much need you read all Holy Scriptures to get the whole point. For the moment, just Matthew 25 will help you balance out.
“No, do not depend on tithes via the church. You must your part of it in instant tithing, that is, instantly helping anyone who needs your help. You cant say and the father will not accept it if you say, "will I will not help this poor person because I have already paid my tithe to the church"!
“Nay,the ultimate purpose of the ordinance of tithing is that we learn what the word ‘first’ means: first in time, first in our heart. So, when a poor dying person is in need of your help, will you say, I have already paid my tithe to the church and leave him to die?
“Nay, we may continue supporting our spiritual teachers but we must come to learn the true meaning of their teachings, first tithing for example.
“It means there is a part we give to our ministers for their living and for big charities, but there is also a part for those who instantaneously come to us for aid. You do not need the 15th or 30th of the month to do that. That will be too late to answer an emergency. Help spontaneously!
“That is what first tithing ultimately means: Spontaneous expression of brotherly love. God speed. Manong.”
My dear countrymen, Catholicism or Protestantism is a trivial issue. It should not be our focus. We can evolve into Divine Love in whatever Church or denomination we are in. To proceed from Self-love to Divine Love is the path of salvation, the path to true Christianity and spiritual maturity.
This holds the key to all our troubles and questions and plagues that plague our country and family and self today!!
