GAMBLING - WAY TO SALVATION?

Do you believe that vices including gambling are the ways or means to our salvation?

Do you think it is acceptable to God as a way to salvation to combine church mass in the church and perya (gambling) in the public market during fiestas? And why the cock beside St. Peter’s statue which has become the gamblers’ patron saint and inspiration especially during procession? Is it not a subtle bait to make people become friendly and then willing slaves to the evil vice of gambling?

You are too deceived to have seen that gambling is a Leviathan in sheep’s clothing and has done irreparable damage to the soul and morality of the nation. Its target is the foundation: replace industry (work, diligence) with laziness, and from laziness sprang all kinds of evils. For by laziness, we broke the 4th commandment about diligent work 6 days a week, by which we should derive our needs and achieve our dreams, and because instead of diligence, we became lazier, therefore, we proceeded to break the commandments to honor parents’ advice, not to steal, not to lie, not to kill, not to engage in sexual immorality or use sex as a means of livelihood or to attain one’s ambitions, not to covet and such other evil means; thus, the entire Ten Commandments are broken if we started the whole process of disobedience by breaking the commandment of diligent work.

Work, and not those aforementioned prohibited means, is the way to provide our needs, attain our wants, achieve success, riches and happiness.

In the work-commandment, we are to fully use the 6 days for work, and none whatsoever for gambling. We may play for diversion or relaxation, but it is wrong to use (money) bets as well as some other deceits and make harmless game into a spiritually harmful gambling as a means to earn a living or to prove you are better than others, hence, pride.

You have to be wiser than you are by measuring gambling whether it passes the test ‘You shall know by their fruits. A bad tree bears bad fruit; a good tree bears good fruit. It cannot be otherwise.” So, you look around in the neighborhood and in your own home, and then, all over the country, what has gambling wrought upon our families and nations? What are the fruits of gambling?

Has gambling solved the financial-economic problems of the people?
Or has it not drained whatever bills and coins left?
Has it not increased the debts of the family?
Is it not because of gambling that many basic needs of the wife and children were sacrificed or suffered?
Has gambling made the wives and children happy most or all of the time?
In a yearly basis, has it added to the family’s income?
Has it added to the family and personal time, or did it not waste precious time that could have been used for more productive purposes?
Summarized on a monthly basis, has gambling added to food in the table or was not food missed or lacking because of gambling?
How about the health of the gamblers, especially those who gambled overnight? Did not many die because they lost their health, got sick due to gambling which drain their energy, robbed them of sleep and food?
For the loss of a father to gambling, how are his widow and his orphaned children? Is that a good fruit of gambling? To leave them behind to suffer the rest of their lives?
By winning, are you not depriving the family of the losers the benefits that would have been theirs? Is it not a form of stealing?
What about the lessons or values you learned from gambling? Is not cockfighting teaching you to kill?
Is not cockfighting teaching you not to love your neighbor animals? What did God command? Love your neighbor as yourself.
Is not cockfighting teaching you how to pit people to quarrel or destroy each other, so you can gain from their fall? So that only your store will thrive while theirs fall? Or so that you will win in the election or get promoted to the high position? Is not pitting people against each other a skill taught by cockfighting? The skill of divide and rule tactic? Whose method is that? Satan’s!
In being ‘angered,’ ‘challenged’ during the game, what attitude is that being awakened and stirred? Pride! Pride is awakened in your want to prove to your fellow men that you are better than any of them! Or that your cock is the better fighter. Is it not pride? And is not pride opposite to humility which is the one that Christ taught, “Learn from Me. I am gentle and humble.”
If we grow in pride, are we not growing in tendency towards our fall? Because over and over in the Bible especially in the Book of Proverbs, it is being repeatedly said that ‘Pride precedes (that is, causes) every fall’ - that Lucifer fell because of his pride (loss of humility). Did not Christ warn that ‘The proud shall be abased’? Then, why are we promoting, nurturing, stirring, fanning, cultivating pride, such through gambling?
What about the vice of laziness? Does not gambling offer an alternative to hard work? Are not children, men and people made lazier (read: lesser in work) when they accept gambling as a better alternative to work or a useful complement to work? Or is not gambling-laziness replacing work-diligence? If the nation diminish in honest diligent work, and increases in laziness and dishonest activities, what can we expect from it?
If gambling kills or displaces work and thus causes us to break the commandment of work, is not such laziness leading us to break the rest of the Ten Commandments? And will not, or does not, laziness press us to steal? To kill? To lie or cheat? To covet? To break all the rest of the Ten Commandment in order to earn a living or become rich or have our wants or meet our needs?
How about women selling their bodies, if they realize that they can earn without working hard, by just offering their bodies for sale to any man?
What list of values is gambling creating?
If gambling makes you lazy, and thus you produce little, but at the same time your envy or desire for the nice things of others increases, will it not lead to covetousness, stealing, even murder, or to adultery a.k.a. stealing the rich husband of others just to get what you want and enjoy a life of ease and comfort? Is that an honest way? Is that a clean way?
Well, by becoming an adulterer, robber-thief, coveter, murderer, etc. etc., are you loving your neighbor thus? And by being exposed to the anger of husbands and society, are you loving yourself thus? Can an angry husband be pacified if you give him money after coveting his wife?
Because it is the root, leading to many other sins and vices, is not the vice of gambling more fatal than you have ever known it?
How does gambling stand before the Great Commandment “You shall love God your Father above all and your neighbor as yourself”? In what way does gambling fulfill it?
Concerning the gambling operators and protectors, what benefit – read: real and sustainable or lasting – benefits have they given to society?
Is the employment they give to their ushers commensurate to the damage their activity is doing to the people including the younger generation?
What good values are they teaching the children and promoting to the people?
Is not the money that they are able to collect from the masses used to let evil men fill the government positions from top down so that they can proceed to enslaving the people?
Are they not funding evil candidates win the elections so that these evil winners will tolerate, support and protect their free operations in society – to make this country a country of gambling, drugs and prostitutions? This isn’t good news. Never!

If you think along those lines, you will realize that gambling is more evil than you have ever realized?

What is dangerous is when Lucifer’s gang takes over the government, businesses and other agencies so that the we, the people, will be stripped off our free will and judgment, our mind be controlled by them, and we lose our freedom and safety, and we become their slaves like robots and zombies!

So, my countrymen,

Be a better thinker. It will do you and the country good! Measure the vice of gambling against the law “You shall love the Father your God above all in the persons of the poor and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Are you, by gambling, able to love God through His poor people? Or are you not hindered from helping the poor by your gambling vice? Are you, by gambling, able to love your neighbor or you hurt many wives and children when you defeated your opponents, their husbands-fathers? Are you not hurting your own wife and children when you lost? Your wife and children belongs to ‘self’ which you also are taught by Christ to love as you love your neighbor.

It is time for you to know what gambling really is – spiritually. It is worse than the crime of murder! It is worse than the crime of adultery! Why? Because gambling breaks all 10 commandments, not just one or two, and secondly, because gambling harms so many people, not just one or a few! So, if there is one sin that needs to be rooted out as a priority in our war against evils, it is gambling, because gambling is, in its essence, love of money (first sin) combined by laziness (sin No. 2) and it comes with pride (sin 3). These three spiritual ingredients make up a powerful poison. Love of money, Paul says, is the root of all evils. Laziness, too, Jesus once said, is a root of all evils. And pride was the main evil that caused Lucifer and his angels to rebel against God. So, if you have laziness, love of money (and all splendor and pleasure that money can buy) and you have pride developed during gambling sessions, then, you are not on the right path to salvation. But you are a candidate for salvation, precisely because you are not yet saved in that situation – from the slavery of sin, which gambling is a three-fold kind! But who can save you? Not me! Not your priest! Not the pastor! We only show you the way. But it is you and your Lord Jesus Christ who should work out your own salvation. We only can hand to you the Lord’s instructions. That’s all. But it is you who should follow the Lord’s instructions in order to effect your salvation. If He tells you “Come out from that evil system that you will stop sinning and you can escape the evil consequences,” (Revelation 18:4), then, obey His order!

It is gambling, along with drunkenness, that the Spaniards, as false ministers, (except a handful of them) imparted to the pliable ignorant minds of the Filipinos. Jesus said that the Filipinos were better off morally and spiritually before the Spaniards came; they became worse after the Spaniards came and brought evil vices mixed with religion!
